Some plastic do leach BPA's...the type of plastic that is used for water bottles..and soft drinks..and beer and power drinks and teas and a host of other beverages is made from PET (identified by a number 1). It doesn't leach BPA's. The problem with PET plastic is that it is so durable it doesn't go away..ever. There is a biodegradable version now and it will go away. By the way, more containers of PET are manufactured for soft drinks, beer, teas, etc...than water. On a side note, PET doesn't float..it is heavier than water so once it no longer holds air it sinks so isn't cintributing to the problems in the oceans. Having said that I'm not saying PET doesn't have it's problems...it does, but mixing it in with other plastics that do cause cancer is confusing the issue.
