Now you can learn about a new and improved vertigo treatment to help you feel more together easily. It is not difficult to do anymore. See why now…
The Epley Maneuver helping many
Vertigo often arrives suddenly and sticks around stubbornly — but if you put yourself in the right hands, literally, a cure may be easily had. A series of painless, noninvasive head movements, called the Epley Maneuver, has become a widely used and effective treatment for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), one of the most common kinds of vertigo. For many suffering from vertigo, having the maneuver performed solves the problem. Now I hear from John Epley, MD, founder and former medical director of the Portland Otologic Clinic, creator of the Epley Maneuver and an internationally recognized expert in the field of otology, the diagnosis and treatment for vertigo can be done even more effectively with a new medical device. Funded in part by the National Institutes of Health and developed by Dr. Epley, the Epley Omniax System is designed to help detect, differentiate, treat and manage all forms of positional vertigo, not just BPPV. Not only does it vastly improve the odds of proper diagnosis, Dr. Epley said the Epley Omniax is able to perform several critical maneuvers that cannot easily be done without the device.
The Evolution of the Epley Maneuver
In the Epley Maneuver, a trained health-care provider tilts your head in a series of positions until characteristic eye movements associated with dizziness cease. This helps to move errant particles floating in the ear canal — the cause of dizziness — back into their proper place in the inner ear. Often a single 10- to 15-minute treatment in your doctor’s office is all that’s needed to resolve symptoms, and in most cases, insurance covers the cost.
Though Dr. Epley began treating patients with, and trying to educate others in, the technique back in the 1970s, mainstream medicine was slow to believe. Not until the 1990s did it become widely accepted as safe and more effective than the older treatments for vertigo, which most commonly involved medications and surgery. Many medical professionals now are trained in the technique — you can find one at www.vesticon.com.
The Epley Omniax takes diagnosis and treatment of BPPV and other forms of vertigo to a new level. The only problem is, it’s not widely available — you can check http://vesticon.com for a list of providers. Given how common vertigo is, I suspect the Epley Omniax will be available in more communities very soon.
